Hi!  My name is Erika.  My husband, Brandon, and I currently live in Hohenfels, Germany, where he is stationed with the U.S. Army.  This blog is my attempt to journal about our overseas experiences while our 3 years here fly by!  I plan to write about how life differs here in Germany, and how it is similar to being back in the United States.  I’ll also be sure to post pictures & describe our travels around Europe.  Please feel free to leave comments and I hope you’ll enjoy reading about our latest adventures.

We have been researching everything on Hohenfels and yours is about the best blog we have come across. I noticed that your husband is an OC there and that you mentioned CAV. I will be on the Grizzly Team in December and we are looking for some pointers on life in Hohenfels and all the PCS good and bad that you could maybe help us out with.

We are new to the area and live near Seubersdorf. Please email me if you can give me information on your Basic German classes. Thanks!

      Hi Amy,
Welcome to Germany! The basic German class I took at the Seubersdorf VHS was three years ago now! I learned about it through the Hohenfels Hometown Happenings, community announcements published weekly and available on the garrison webpage: http://www.hohenfels.army.mil. Lately, I haven’t seen any similar classes offered. The Seubersdorf VHS is part of the Neumarkt system. Their website is http://www.vhs-neumarkt.de. I did a search for Seubersdorf classes and didn’t see a basic German class. There is a class offered on post through ACS. I haven’t taken it, but it would probably be a great introduction to the language. Check the Hometown Happenings for the next time it’ll be offered. Good luck with your efforts to learn German!

Hi Erika! I stumbled across you blog while searching for information on Hohenfels. My husband is a Major in the Army ( year group 2000) and currently attending the Air Force version of CGSC. We will be moving to Hohenfels this sommer as he will be an OC. This is not our first time in germany, as we were stationed in Garmisch from 2007-2009, our youngest daughter was born there. We just welcomed our little boy on Dec 22, 2013, so we will be moving with 3 kids, ages 7, 5, and he will be 7 months when we pcs. I truly enjoyed reading about your experiences and was wondering if you could send me any tips/ advice for hohenfels. I assume we will live in pargsburg…is there an Aldi there? How are the farmers markets? What’s the best bakery? I appreciate any help!

Hello! I have been enjoying your blog now for some time, since found out Hsband will be heading to OC there at Hohenfels. It won’t be our first go around in Geermany, we lived in Schweinfurt then Bamberg from 2009-2011. Can’t wait to return! We were there without kids last time, this time we will have two wee ones. Any information you have on your Patriot Express experience for flights and for housing there at Hohenfels would be awesome. Everything I have received is vague at best. Husband will be heading over first, then as soon as our (coming) newborns paperwork/passports come in we will follow. Thank you again for writing such an informative blog, you have a lot of travel information on places we would like to hit this time (Slovenia, Norway, cruise ect). Best wishes in all of your adventures!
